Celebrating TAAC Presidents
Vera Davis Marks was born in Flat Top, Alabama and reared in Bellaire, Ohio. After graduating high school, Vera married her first love, Freddie Davis. They were married 24 years and raised three children. They were also blessed with three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Vera obtained a degree in Business Administration from Monterey Peninsula College. Her first job would be as a receptionist in a San Francisco Law Firm which later resulted in a career as an accountant with General Service Administration (GSA), where she worked for many years. Her last employment, before retirement, was with McKesson Pharmaceuticals. Vera Davis was introduced to the second love of her life, Joseph (Joe) Henry Marks in 1998. They entered into a long courtship before marrying in August 2010. Vera moved to The Villages in 1998. Not only is she one of the original founders of TAAC, Vera was elected the first President of TAAC in 1999. Vera and her team started the club’s recognition of birthdays and anniversaries, developed a membership directory, started 50/50 drawings and potluck dinners and other activities. Some of her favorite memories were planning and attending TAAC events. Vera has also enjoyed working with Beverly Steele and The Youth Performing Artists of Royal. She worked with the Democratic Club on campaigning to elect President Barack Obama. And, she volunteered seven years as a Villages Cheerleader. Additionally, Vera is a life member of the NAACP and the TAAC Platinum membership club. She is looking forward to the Links, Incorporated National Convention in June where she will be honored for 50 years of membership service. Currently, Vera stays busy attending TAAC events and Platinum lunches, playing Bocce golf, listening to audible books, functioning as Queen Mum of her Red Hats Chapter, attending monthly Spicy Ladies luncheons, and participating in her weekly Prayer Warrior group. Vera’s motto is and has always been “We can do this”. TAAC President 1999-2000
