Lorraine Hinds (nee Thompson) was born in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. She is an only child, and was raised by her paternal grandparents. Her parents had migrated to the United States to build a foundation so that Lorraine could join them when it was time for college. While growing up Lorraine was sheltered by her grandmother and never experienced many of the things her friends did since her grandparents did not drive and they preferred to live a quiet life.

Lorraine was brought up in the Christian faith, attended the Anglican church, and was confirmed in the faith at age twelve. She graduated high school, having achieved all seven General Certificate of Education (GCE) O-Level passes, migrated to the United States and was accepted into Queens College in the City of New York at age sixteen.

At Queens College, Lorraine earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in June 1981. She subsequently earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with Distinction in Computer Information Systems from Pace University in February 1984. While pursuing her MBA degree, Lorraine married Antonio and the couple migrated to Jamaica in 1993 where Lorraine was Associate Director at Coopers & Lybrand. Lorraine finally got to see and experience all of her island home with Antonio, and in that idyllic Caribbean paradise she wrote her first collection of poems. Lorraine returned to New York in July 1998 when Antonio fell ill and she was widowed in February 1999.

After a period of mourning, Lorraine focused on her career in corporate America and traversed the fields of information systems analysis, design, development and implementation, management and systems consulting, and information technology auditing. She worked in several industries including consumer products, transportation, finance, insurance, investment, utility, and community and commercial banking. She designed and developed computer application systems, managed system operations, identified operating inefficiencies in corporations and developed corrective measures, and she evaluated organizational systems of internal controls to detect and correct control weaknesses and fraud. To her credit, she achieved vice president status in corporate America.

While pursuing her corporate career, Lorraine became a licensed real estate professional and real estate investor. She pursued acting studies and performed in several theatre and film productions. She also established a book publishing company and authored and published several books.

Lorraine is a Notary Public and is a past member of the National Notary Association, the Institute of Internal Auditors, the Information Security Audit and Control Association, and the Poetry Society of America. She is also a past member of the Jamaica Computer Society and a past lecturer at the University of Technology in Jamaica. She has two children and two grandchildren.

As Chairperson of the Membership Committee of The African American Club of the Villages, she works on member recruitment, member satisfaction and knowledge-transfer. She spearheaded the design, development and documentation of TAAC Membership Guide which is a comprehensive resource to help members fully understand TAAC, clarify TAAC functions and operations, and determine how to maximize their membership experience. She also committed herself to the TAAC-encouraged New Covenant United Methodist Church four-year mentorship program supporting the physical, spiritual, behavioral, and academic/career needs of students at the Wildwood Middle High School where she enjoys giving back to further the life and success of her mentee.
