Alan is the 2nd of 4 boys and grew up in Bay Shore, NY.  Alan worked for the Suffolk County Police Department for 32 years, spending 29 years as a police officer.  Alan retired as a Detective in the Electronic Investigations Unit.  Part of his duties in this unit was to provide the technical operations support for the Hostage Negotiation and Barricade Subject Team which meant retrieval of audio and video crimes, audio and video correction, installations of panic alarms, covert cameras and audio devices.  During Alan’s career one of his first visits to Florida was executing an extradition order on Marco Island.  Alan confessed, “I have lived and worked on Long Island my whole life before coming to The Villages,” and to his surprised he liked Marco Island very much.  In addition to being a Detective Alan created, coordinated, and coached youth basketball leagues through PAL in Bay Shore and Central Islip which still exist today!  Alan also coordinated the Girls HS summer basketball league and ran the youth and HS basketball camps that had open gym for basketball training and pick-up games once a week. 

When Alan’s in-laws Jeanie and Tab Grier moved to Naples, he and his wife Celeste made yearly visits, and upon one of those visits they disclosed they were interested in moving to The Villages.  Alan and Celeste decided to join the visit with them and see what The Villages had to offer, and besides a host of activities what Alan really appreciated was the safety aspect of the Villages community (Hmmmm I wonder why?)  After visiting his in-laws backwards and forwards for 5 years Alan and Celeste started the search for their home with the floor plan they desired and found it in June of 2013 with an official move in date in February of 2014 upon full retirement from the Suffolk County Police Department.

Alan joined TAAC in 2014 and became Assistant Treasurer in 2017-2018 under the Presidency of Book-Booker and Assistant Treasurer for Michael Patrom in 2019-2020, but Alan is VERY well-known for his current role as the coordinator of TAAC’s Golf Scramble which is heavily attended by our TAAC members (and usually has a waitlist)! Alan is also a member of the Sophisticated Gents and was Vice President of the Gents for 2 years in 2017 and 2018.  It is no surprise that as a true public servant Alan has stepped up and volunteered to return to TAAC’s Executive Board as Vice President!

Alan is the father of a daughter and a son and has one grandchild.  Alan’s vision for his life here in the Villages is to remain healthy, active, to collect his pension for as long as possible (and I don’t blame him), and “to see the TAAC organization better off when I leave it!”  Alan walks 4 miles, works out, and of course plays golf.
